A high-speed pursuit through the Northern Beaches ended with a boy arrested.

Just after 11.15pm last night (Thursday, 02 January), officers attached to Northern Beaches Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were patrolling the Wakehurst Parkway, Seaforth, when a ute sped past them at high speed.

The utility was flagged as having been stolen from a property at Cheyne Road, Terrey Hills, overnight on 10/11 December 2024. Police turned around and set off after the stolen vehicle, which they believed contained two occupants.

They caught up with the vehicle at West Street, Balgowlah, and activating lights and sirens, officers attempted to pull the ute over but it allegedly failed to stop.

A police pursuit was then initiated, with the vehicle proceeding along Sydney Road and over The Spit Bridge before the pursuit was terminated at Falcon Street, North Sydney, due to safety concerns.

Following further inquiries, the vehicle was found crashed at Earl Street, Mosman, after it had attempted to double back to evade police. A 16-year-old boy, who is alleged to be one of the vehicles occupants, was found and arrested nearby.

The boy was taken to Manly Police Station where he was charged with:

  • exceed speed over 30 km/h
  • police pursuit — not stop — drive recklessly
  • drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, and
  • never licenced person drive on road

He has been refused bail to appear in a Children’s Court today (Friday, 03 January 2025).

NSW Police inquiries are continuing into the identity of a second person believed travelling in the vehicle before the crash.
