Police are hunting for thieves who stole a car and crashed it at Mona Vale.
Just after midnight today (Monday, 26 August), NSW Police responded to a report of a vehicle that had been stolen at Katrina Avenue, Mona Vale. Within minutes, they also received reports of a vehicle crashed at Mona Vale Road, Mona Vale, near Samuel Street.

Officers attached to Northern Beaches Police Area Command attended the crash scene and found a late model grey Subaru Outback station wagon crashed into a metal fence, narrowly missing a bus shelter.

The vehicle was empty by the time police arrived, with the occupants fled from the crash scene. Confirming the car matched the description of the stolen vehicle from nearby Katrina Avenue, additional police units were called to the scene, including the Dog Unit.

Police established a crime scene and a cordon in an effort to prevent those who had left the car from getting away. A search of the surrounding streets was conducted by officers with a police dog.

Police using flashlights and the dog were seen combing through the front yards and backyards of homes up to 250m from the crash scene, waking some startled residents as they thoroughly searched the area.

After around an hour of searching the neighbourhood however, they were unable to locate anyone who may have been connected with the crashed vehicle.

The Subaru was seized and loaded onto a tow truck to be taken for forensic investigation just before 1.15am.
Police have asked that anyone with information, dashcam or CCTV footage of suspicious activity in the area from midnight to 1.00am, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
