Police descended on Terrey Hills overnight after a reported home invasion.
Just before 10.30pm last night (Monday, 03 February), NSW Police responded to a report of a home invasion at Terrigal Road, Terrey Hills. Officers attached to Northern Beaches Police Area Command, including the Dog Unit, and the PolAir helicopter were tasked to the area.
A search of the surrounding area was undertaken and a report came in of two youths fleeing on foot towards Booralie Road just after 11.00pm. The pair of males were described as dressed in black tracksuit pants and black hoodies, of slim build and short stature, suggesting they may be aged in their mid-teens.

Police established a perimeter at Dandenong Road, and further sightings were reported at Terrey Hills Oval toward Beltana Avenue, and via Triple Zero (000) calls from residents at Cowrang Avenue.
Police patrolled the area in vehicles searching for the fugitives, and told people to stay off the street as the Dog Unit searched the area with support from the police helicopter.

Police were seen to search a grid pattern from the shopping centre at Yulong Avenue, along Booralie Road, through to Timaru Road. At least six police units were observed to be involved in the search, but after midnight, the search began to be scaled back without apparent success.
The focus of the investigation returned to the home at Terrigal Road, where a crime scene was established and the road was closed between Jumbunna Place and Tiarri Avenue.

Police were observed conducting inquiries, and senior police were seen to arrive to oversee the investigation, indicating it was of a serious nature.
Police were told the assailants had broken into the home and assaulted the 68-year-old male resident, demanding a car key. A search of the area around the home found a knife that has been seized by police as part of the investigation.

The Northern Beaches Advocate has asked police for further details on the incident (statement below), but a number of break-ins have been reported recently in the Terrey Hills area, including intruders on premises.
The occupant of the home was assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics and treated for an injury to his hand. He was taken to Northern Beaches Hospital in a stable condition.

Only last Friday (31 January), a 23-year-old man allegedly climbed through the bedroom window of a house at Killara, where he was confronted by the occupant of the home. Following a standoff, the intruder allegedly stole the resident’s vehicle and led police on a high-speed pursuit across the Northern Beaches until he crashed the vehicle at Narraweena.
