An allegedly drunk driver crashed after they allegedly fled police in an allegedly stolen car.

Just before 1.45am Saturday morning (15 November), officers attached to Northern Beaches Police Area Command outside Manly Police Station at Belgrave Street, Manly, allegedly witnessed a Subaru Forester make a U-turn at traffic lights.

Police stopped the car, which was driven by an 18-year-old man. The driver was given a roadside breath test, which allegedly returned a positive result.

As officers prepared a second roadside breath test, the driver allegedly drove off, ignoring directions to stop.

The vehicle turned into Denison Street, Manly, as police jumped into their car and followed the Subaru with lights and sirens. The pursuit came to a sudden stop when the driver crashed into an unoccupied Tesla parked on the street.

The man was not injured in the collision but the vehicle he was driving was badly damaged. The car was also allegedly found to have been stolen from Freshwater earlier that night.

The driver was arrested at the scene and taken to Manly Police Station, where he was charged with:

  • Steal motor vehicle
  • Police pursuit not stop drive recklessly
  • Drive with low range Prescribed Concentration of Alcohol (PCA)
  • Not comply P1 licence no P-plates
  • Make U-turn at intersection with traffic lights
