A public ‘Yellow Wiggle’ Automated External Defibrillator (AED) has been used to help resuscitate a man who collapsed at Mona Vale.
Shortly before 11.30am this morning (Thursday, 04 June), NSW Police and NSW Ambulance responded to a report of a man collapsed and unresponsive at Park Street, Mona Vale.

Bystanders reportedly found the man in his 40s collapsed at the corner of Park Street and Barrenjoey Road, Mona Vale, near Village Park.
As they called Triple Zero (000), the public AED was retrieved from the ‘Yellow Wiggle’ stand at the nearby B-Line bus stop.
Bystanders, which included a man in his 20s and a Northern Beaches Council Ranger, commenced cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the unconscious and unresponsive man until police and paramedics arrived.

Taking over the resuscitation effort, they found the man had a pulse, but remained semiconscious as a result of a head injury it is believed he sustained when he collapsed on the pavement.

Three NSW Ambulance crews, including Intensive Care Paramedics, an Extended Care Paramedic and NSW Ambulance Supervisor Paul Nightingale, worked to stabilise the man before taking him to Royal North Shore Hospital just after midday.

Officers attached to Northern Beaches Police Area Command and Traffic and Highway Patrol Command took statements from the bystanders who came across the collapsed man and provided initial resuscitation.
The AED was taken into police possession for checking and replacement by Northern Beaches Council.
