An apparent home invasion is the latest in a series of troubling events at Dee Why.

In the last two weeks, there have been at least three serious incidents resulting in emergency services responding to Francis Street, Dee Why. The most recent being an apparent home invasion in the early hours of Sunday morning (27 August) that left two people in hospital.

Police are remaining relatively tight-lipped about the incident in the early hours, confirming only that a 41-year-old man faced Manly Court yesterday (Monday, 28 August) after allegedly forcing entry to a unit at Francis Street, Dee Why, around 2.45am Sunday (27 August) and attacking the occupants with a brick.

The occupants of the unit fought back however, reportedly hitting the man with a baseball bat, leaving him with serious head injuries.

The 41-year-old man was uncooperative with emergency services attempting to treat his injuries and was placed into an induced coma before being taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious condition suffering numerous blunt force trauma blows to his head.

The man appears to have made a sufficient recovery by yesterday however to be arrested and taken to Manly Police Station for police to lay charges for break and enter and assault offences, and for him to appear in Manly Court yesterday in relation to those matters.

Also injured in the attack was a woman in her 40s who sustained head injuries. She was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Northern Beaches Hospital in a stable condition.

Police have remained guarded about the incident and any investigation, and did not respond to a request for comment about possible connection to two other serious incidents on the street in the last two weeks.

Two weeks prior, in the early hours of Sunday, 13 August, NSW Police and NSW Ambulance were called to another serious disturbance, where an allegedly intoxicated and aggressive 25-year-old man was restrained outside a unit block at Francis Street.

The man was suffering head injuries, but police and paramedics were unable to determine if those injuries had been caused by an assault or a fall, and the man was unable to communicate coherently. He was also placed into an induced coma and taken to Royal North Shore Hospital with a suspected head trauma.
