A driver who veered his car into a tree at Bayview allegedly admitted to drinking before the crash.
Just before 11.45am Wednesday morning (30 September), NSW Police and NSW Ambulance responded to multiple Triple Zero (000) calls reporting a grey 2018 Nissan X-TRAIL SUV had been driven into a large gum tree at the side of Cabbage Tree Road, Bayview, near Annam Road.
Several bystanders stopped to help the male driver in his 50s, who remained seated in his vehicle. Two bystanders assisted to direct traffic until the arrival of officers attached to Northern Beaches Police Area Command and Traffic and Highway Patrol Command.

Air bags had deployed in the vehicle and the man was bleeding from a cut on his forehead, but was conscious and able to speak.
One bystander alleged the man had admitted to drinking before he drove his vehicle. Another said the man told them he was being forced to move out of his house and was on his way to a storage facility to move personal belongings.
Police spoke with the man who allegedly admitted to drinking earlier in the day. He denied taking any other illicit substances. A tow truck driver pulled the SUV free of the tree and removed it from the scene.

Two NSW Ambulance crews were despatched to the single-vehicle collision, including NSW Ambulance Supervisor Ree Lane. Paramedics assessed the man for an injury to his head and abrasions to his arms before he was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition for mandatory testing just before 12.30pm.
The results of the mandatory drug and alcohol testing will not be available for several weeks.
The man was the sole occupant of the vehicle and no other injuries were reported in the incident.
