A body found at Mona Vale is believed to be that of a missing Northern Beaches man.

Just after 4.15pm this afternoon (Wednesday, 01 November), NSW Police were called to Hillcrest Avenue, Mona Vale, following reports of a body seen near the headland.

Surf Life Saving NSW lifeguards and NSW Ambulance paramedics also responded to the northern end of Mona Vale Beach, and made their way around the headland to search for the person who had been reported by distressed members of the public.

The Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter was also called in, and rescuers were guided to the location of the person on the rocks. They found a person who was deceased.

The body is yet to be formally identified, but NSW Police believe it to be that of a 71-year-old man from Mona Vale who was reported missing on Monday afternoon (30 October).

When the man could not be located or contacted by family, officers attached to Northern Beaches Police Area Command were notified and commenced inquiries into his whereabouts.

A geo-targeted SMS message was issued by NSW Police on Monday evening (30 October) to Mona Vale and surrounding suburbs. NSW Police and the NSW State Emergency Service (SES) conducted a search in bushland surrounding Bayview Golf Course today, looking for the missing man.

Following extensive inquiries and a multi-agency search with assistance from PolAir, Public Order and Riot Squad, Police Rescue, Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter, and NSW SES volunteers, around 4.30pm this afternoon, the body of a man was located at the headland at Mona Vale.

A NSW Police spokesperson said a report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
