A boy was knocked unconscious after falling off his bike at Bare Creek Bike Park.

Just after 11.00am this morning (Sunday, 04 June), NSW Ambulance was called to a report of a 15-year-old male injured after falling off his mountain bike while going over a jump at the Bare Creek Bike Park at Crozier Road, Belrose.

On arrival, paramedics were informed the boy was still lying on the bike track, and had briefly lost consciousness after landing heavily on his head after failing to negotiate a 4m jump. Regaining consciousness after tumbling over his handlebars onto the ground, the boy’s friends said his first words on coming to were, ‘Did I do something cool?’

The boy had been wearing protective gear at the time of the incident. Paramedics assessed him for a number of injuries, including a suspected broken left collarbone, a suspected broken right wrist, an injury to his head, and difficulty breathing.

Concerned at the possible extent of his injuries and the difficult location on the bike track, paramedics escalated the response, requesting additional resources for a rescue extraction.

Two Special Operations paramedics, Grant Armstrong and Tom Buckle, were called to the incident scene, along with NSW Ambulance Inspector Alex Lim.

They also requested the attendance of Fire and Rescue NSW, with firefighters from Willoughby and Gordon Stations responding.

After paramedics administered pain relief and using spinal precautions, firefighters carried the injured teen up the hill in a stokes litter to the car park, where he was loaded into a waiting NSW Ambulance.

He was taken to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a serious but stable condition just before 12.15pm.
