A car has rolled 5m and landed on its roof after going over an embankment at North Narrabeen.

Just after 1.30pm this afternoon (Thursday, 11 May), emergency services received multiple Triple Zero (000) reports of a car that had veered off the road at Powderworks Road, North Narrabeen.

Officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command, three NSW Ambulance crews, and Fire and Rescue NSW specialist rescue firefighters from Narrabeen Station, swiftly responded to the incident scene.

A witness at the scene said that they could not believe what they had seen, with the car seeming to have just gone off the road, crashing through fencing next to the public footpath, before rolling 5m down a steep embankment into a residential property.

The slope at this point of Powderworks Road, close to the border of Elanora Heights, is very steep, with homes only a few metres from the roadway already at roof level with the street.

The car’s plunge from street level was brought to a crashing halt by a very large tree trunk that fortuitously stopped the car going directly into a house.

NSW Ambulance Inspector David Lambert was first on scene to assess the sole occupant and driver of the vehicle, a man in his 40s, who had miraculously escaped injury, and was assisted back to an arriving NSW Ambulance for further assessment. He did not need to be taken to hospital, and no other persons were reported injured in the incident.

NSW Police maintained a contra flow of traffic on busy Powderworks Road, while firefighters from Narrabeen Station assessed the stability of the vehicle and any risk of ignition or fuel leaks. They also established an exclusion zone with barrier tape.

The position of the car, a 2016 grey Toyota Camry, meant it would be difficult to retrieve. It was lifted out by a mini crane around 4.45pm, then removed by a tow truck organised by police.

Officers attached to Northern Beaches Police Area Command were seen to be conducting inquiries into the incident at the scene.
