Officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command were first on scene, finding the damaged dark-blue Holden station wagon with two occupants. The driver, a 56-year-old man, was able to exit the vehicle and according to witnesses at the scene did not appear to be seriously injured.

The other occupant of the vehicle, a male front seat passenger who NSW Police believe is in his late 20s, was trapped and badly injured. Intensive Care Paramedics arrived just before 8.30pm, finding the man suffering severe trauma with no vital signs.

Specialist rescue firefighters from Narrabeen Station cut away a section of the car to allow the man to be pulled from the vehicle. However, paramedics determined that he was deceased at the scene.

Police had closed South Creek Road to all traffic at the intersection of Inman Road and established a crime scene. The driver, who a bystander described as visibly distressed, left the scene accompanied by police. He was taken to Northern Beaches Hospital for mandatory testing.

NSW Police confirmed they are investigating whether the car may have struck a boat parked on the side of the road around 20m from where the Holden wagon came to a stop. Broken glass was visible on the ground next to the boat.
