A Forestville woman had a terrifying plunge when she drove her car through her garage wall.

Just after 3.00pm this afternoon (Saturday, 17 December), emergency services including NSW Police, NSW Ambulance, Fire and Rescue NSW, and the CareFlight Rescue Helicopter, responded to a report a car had plunged down an embankment of a two-storey residential house at Bellbird Crescent, Forestville.

Neighbours rushed to assist the 74-year-old female driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, who had driven forward through the garage of her home and out the rear brick wall.

Her silver Holden station wagon had then fallen 3-4m nose-down a steep embankment and into a neighbouring property. The woman was able to be helped from the vehicle, suffering a blow to her forehead, which caused bruising and bleeding. She also complained of a sore neck.

The woman began to insist she was okay, but was restrained by a neighbour, who insisted she remain still until emergency services arrived shortly after.

The falling car had missed the neighbour’s dog that was in its backyard, which was secured by NSW Police officers to allow NSW Ambulance paramedics safe access to assess the woman’s injuries.

CareFlight at Melwood Oval

The CareFlight Rescue Helicopter was tasked from Westmead and landed at nearby Melwood Oval, Melwood Avenue, Forestville, just after 3.15pm, where NSW Ambulance Inspector Mark Whittaker was waiting to take the specialist medical team to the incident scene.

An exclusion zone was established, and an assessment will need to be performed for the safe removal of the vehicle from the neighbour’s backyard.
