NSW Police are investigating the alleged attempted abduction of a boy from a public street at Cromer.

At approximately 3.20pm yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, 25 May) shortly after school ended, a 12-year-old boy walking alone in the vicinity of Cromer Public School at Meehan Road, Cromer, near Waroon Road, was allegedly approached by an adult male who was unknown to him.

The man, who is estimated to be aged in his mid-30s, was driving a black two-door ute with a silver tray. The man allegedly offered the boy a lift, which was declined. At this point, the man allegedly stopped his vehicle and approached the boy.

The boy managed to escape the man, reportedly spraying him in the face with a water bottle and running away. The man then left the location in the vehicle.

NSW Police were notified and officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command conducted an extensive patrol of the area but neither the man or the vehicle could be located.

The man was described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his mid-30s, clean-shaven, with black hair in a mullet style and dark brown eyes. He was wearing a black AC/DC baseball cap, black jumper, long blue jeans and white running shoes.

NSW Police have confirmed that an investigation into the matter is ongoing.
