Mayor Michael Regan has named the team he will run with at the Council elections, which have been rescheduled to 04 December.
Hosted by James Mathieson, the Your Northern Beaches Independent Team (YNBIT) held a campaign launch on Thursday, 26 August, to introduce the 15 candidates that will run for election under the YNBIT banner.
According to Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan, YNBIT brings a solid team together but exists as a political party solely to run for election and have an ‘above the line’ vote, which is arguably the sole reason many political parties exist.
“A couple of the key messages are that we are a group of independents that work with each other collectively. We’ve got all of that experience and skillset, no ego, we just want to represent and make decisions, learn, contribute and make a difference.
“We had to create a party so we could have our name above the line. That’s the only reason we are a political party. Otherwise we are just a group of independents who work really well with the staff and work even better with our community. It’s amazing how we challenge each other and get the best decisions,” said Mayor Regan.

Making the case for his party to win re-election and control of Council for another term, Mayor Regan said there was more work for his team to do.
“In this next Council, coming out of the pandemic has been quite traumatic for some. A lot of businesses have not made it through. We have got to make sure we help our community through. We are going to build on what we have done and what we are doing. I’m proud of that response we are leading, whether it’s Library2U or whether it’s the business support. We have got to build on that.
“On environment, we have been leading the government with their policies and we now want to embed that because everything that we do, at the core of it, is our future. We need to make sure that we look after the environment, it’s about protecting, it’s about enhancing and it’s about making sure we can do mitigation and fix it. There’s a lot to do in that space.
“With all the infrastructure projects coming our way, courtesy of the state government, they need us there at the table to ensure we get the best results for the community. It’s about working with them, we have built those relationships and they listen to us,” said Mayor Regan.
The Your Northern Beaches Independent Team will be listed above the line on the ballot paper for the Local Government Election to be held on Saturday, 04 December.
