A man is in critical condition in hospital after an assault at a beach at Fairlight yesterday (Sunday, 10 January).
Around 4.30pm emergency services were called to reports of an assault at Delwood Beach, Fairlight.
Officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command and NSW Ambulance paramedics found a 26-year-old man suffering head injuries near the rockpool.
The man was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to Royal North Shore Hospital. The man’s condition deteriorated and he required emergency surgery. He is in a critical condition.
Police were told the man was at the beach with friends when they were involved in a verbal argument with four males. The injured man was struck to the back of the head, causing him to fall with his head striking the ground.
The group involved have been described as being two males of Caucasian appearance and two males of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance.
Detectives have commenced an investigation and are appealing for public assistance, urging any witnesses or anyone with information to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
