Police intercepted a car at Mona Vale containing a woman who had been detained against her will.

Late Tuesday evening, 13 October, witnesses reported seeing a woman accosted by a man after getting off a bus at Newport.

The woman reportedly twice tried to avoid the man in a Newport car park, with her clothing torn as she tried to escape being forced into a vehicle.

Police responded to multiple calls concerned for the welfare of the woman, pulling over a car containing the woman and a 19-year-old man at Mona Vale.

It is understood the man and woman are known to each other. They were taken to Manly Police Station where they were interviewed.
